The Nicorette Inhaler ImageOften smokers need an aid to help ease the physical symptoms associated with quitting smoking. Without such an aid, quitting can become an unbearable and a seemingly impossible task. That is exactly what the Nicorette Inhaler (brand names Nicotrol, Nicorette, Generic Nicotine Inhaler) is designed to do, ease the physical symptoms.

So what exactly is the Nicorette Inhaler?

The Nicorette Inhaler is very similar in shape to a cigarette and made of plastic. It can also be held just like a cigarette. This is a big plus for those who find it hard to be without the hand to mouth action of smoking. The device has a mouth piece from which the smoker ‘puffs’ on. When this occurs a cartridge inside the inhaler releases a vapour which is absorbed quickly into the body through the mouth and throat. This vapour contains nicotine.

This is said to help reduce the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, thus making the quitting process easier to handle. Over time the amount the inhaler is used should decrease, helping the smoker to ease their way off the nicotine addiction. After a period of time it is hoped that this addiction will be gone completely.

The Nicorette Inhaler should be used over a period of 12 weeks. Over the first 8 weeks, between 6-12 cartridges will be used each day. Each cartridge has a life of about 20 minutes of continual puffing. Over the next couple of weeks the amount of cartridges should drop by half, between 3-6. Over the final two weeks only 1-2 cartridges should be used a day until eventually they are not required at all.

It is advised that this program is followed in order to get the most out of the product. No more than 12 cartridges should be used in any one day. Smoking must cease as soon as the inhaler is in use. The inhaler should not be used in conjunction with any other stop smoking aid such as patches or gums. If these conditions are not adhered to it can lead to some very serious side effects.

The Nicorette Inhaler like many other stop smoking aids does have some side effects. The more common side effects are not serious and can include, headaches, coughing, nausea, indigestion, runny nose, mouth and throat irritations.

Those who suffer from a medical condition and/or take medication should talk to their doctor before using the Nicorette Inhaler. Preganant and breast feeding woman should not use the inhaler.

The people from Nicorette recognise the fact that the Nicorette Inhaler will only help smokers deal with their physical addiction to smoking. They recommend that a psychological program be used in conjunction with the inhaler in order to achieve maximum results.

Well I’ll start at the beginning. I am 45, smoked 3-4 packs a day from when I was 11 till 40. Not at the beginning of course, but me and my cousin used to sneak puffs behind his dads garage. I didn’t have many friends, and I hoped it would help me be ‘cooler.’ It didn’t.
I started the inhaler in 2003, I would go outside and ’smoke’ it with my colleagues. One of the other ladies had recommended it, so we would puff on our inhalers together. Sometimes I would have the odd cigarette, but they were awful after a while and I just wanted my inhaler. It was so much better than smoking. I went through 4 cartridges the first day, but after that, I was ’smoking’ less and less till I stoppped completely.
I never looked back. I was so glad there was a way I could get my ‘fix’ without smoking all the other chemicals. It wasn’t easy, but I didn’t have any of the ‘withdrawals’ that everyone talks about. I didn’t feel sick or have any side effects either.
Now I feel so much better. I am so much more in control of my life. I felt like cigarettes controlled me but now I am the one in control. I feel so much healthier. My cough has gone. My yellow teeth are now white. My hair, clothes and car no longer reek of smoke.
Smoking to me was like losing a friend, but just like in real life when you lose a friend you get over it. It’s worth it to feel so much better as I do now. You really do start to forget what it is like to be a smoker.
I have been off now for 18 months and still going strong. I wish you luck for the future, wish me luck too. Just keep remembering how good it will be once you’ve quit. The truth is, its worth it.
